Our Vision

Independent estate administration is a specialist service commonly provided by professionals in circumstances where the beneficiaries (or other potentially interested parties, such as the deceased’s creditors) feel it would be in their best interests for the deceased’s existing personal representatives to be replaced by an independent person to complete the estate administration. This situation can arise for a variety of reasons, for example where the executors named in the will may have acted improperly or not acted at all or there is a dispute as to the validity of the last will.

An independent administrator is often required to make important (and sometimes unpopular) decisions in difficult circumstances, which demands a particular level of skill and experience. NAIA serves as a platform for both contentious and non-contentious practitioners to demonstrate their expertise in this area and to help fellow professionals to identify appropriate candidates for an appointment as an independent administrator, whatever stage the estate administration has reached.

We aim to foster a thriving community where professionals can collaborate, share experiences, educate, advance best practices amongst those involved in independent estate administration and promote changes to the law and procedure in estate administration where appropriate.

Our History

NAIA was formally constituted on 19 March 2024. It was founded by Helen Stewart, Head of Probate and Independent Administrator and Nick Horton, Head of Will, Trust & Estate Disputes at the Thomson Snell & Passmore. They initiated the association in response to the ever-increasing demand for independent administration services.
